The tragedy that recently occurred in Longmont demonstrated the inadequacy of Colorado law when it comes to protecting unborn victims of heinous crimes. There were two victims in the Longmont tragedy – Michelle Wilkins and her baby daughter Aurora. Unfortunately Colorado law only recognizes one victim in these types of situations.
This past week the State Senate introduced Senate Bill 268 which seeks to remedy this inadequacy in Colorado law and follow the lead of the majority of states and the federal government, all of whom have enacted fetal homicide laws. Please contact your state senator and ask them to support Senate Bill 268. For more information about this bill or to find out who your State Senator is please contact the Colorado Catholic Conference: (303) 894-8808 or visit their website: www.cocatholicconference.org
