The Best of Things at All Times – Fr. Steven Voss

Fr. Steven Voss - Pastor - Saint Joseph Catholic Church - Fort Collins - Colorado - 80521Fr. Steven Voss, our pastor, was walking behind a mother and her daughter in the Fort Collins Old Town area. Both appeared to have been shopping and were loaded down with packages. The daughter, who looked to be somewhere between 12 and 14 years old, desperately wanted something, but the mother ignored her. The daughter continued pleading, and as Fr. Steven puts it, “finally went for the jugular” saying, “If you really loved me, you’d let me have it.” This reminded Fr. Steven of how we pray.

In today’s reading, MK 1: 40-45, Jesus does answer the leper’s plea and heals him. “Jesus could simply have set up a little stand right there, and healed everyone,” says Fr. Steven, but He didn’t. Like the mother shopping with her daughter, Jesus had a reason.
