Parish volunteer: Jail inmates’ Passion of Jesus Play impressive

Fran Black - St. Joseph Catholic Church - Ft. Collins - CO - 80521
Fran Black

Many thanks to Fran Black for her countless years of Catholic jail ministry! The inmates love this diminutive nonagenarian, and Fran has helped open the door to hope and a fresh start for many. Go, Fran!

I attended a program put on by some of the male inmates of the Larimer County Jail for the volunteers and guests with Lisa Schlueter, the volunteer coordinator of the jail. This was a performance of the final days of Jesus’ life, with a video showing the words, which were then narrated by one inmate, and the action then performed by a group of the men with appropriate music. The entire Passion of Jesus was performed by the inmates in silence, but very professionally. To those of us in the audience, it was very moving, and I am only sorry that there was not some way for the public to have an opportunity to see what these men can do and were willing to give of their time to show that they can do good as part of the community again.

Jail a unique and rewarding faith ministry

Go to jail … for a great, unique and rewarding faith ministry! Give inmates a little hope and demonstrate your Catholic faith through service. We need jail volunteers, especially women. Flexible options; guitarists/vocalists, other musicians especially welcome. Help us at weekly Tuesday evening Communion services, 6:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m or once-a-month Saturday morning Masses. The level of time commitment is up to you. Sample a service if you are unsure. Larimer County Jail will train you if you decide you want to be part of our team. Call Dcn. Greg Reynolds, parish offices., (970) 482 – 4148, x: 230.
