Simeon must have stunned Mary and Joseph with what he foresaw for the infant Jesus. On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Feast of Candelmas, we remember that ancient ceremony consecrating Jesus to the Lord with the blessing of candles. The following day, Sunday, Feb. 3, marks the healing Feast of Saint Blaise, which will include the blessing of throats at all Masses. Learn more about Candelmas at About.com – Catholicism.
The Saint Joseph Catholic School choir will sing at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Sunday, Jan. 20, at the 11:30 a.m. Mass. The school choir, which is celebrating Catholic Schools Week Jan. 27 – Feb. 2, also plans to sing at our very own Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Jan. 27, at the 9:30 a.m. Mass, and Blessed John XXIII University Parish, Feb. 2nd, at the 5:15 p.m. Mass.
Catholic schools across the nation celebrate Catholic Schools Week annually, showcasing their achievements and program highlights. This year’s theme, “Raise the Standards”, celebrates the launch of the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools, an initiative to ensure consistent high standards at Catholic schools across the country. Please join us as we enjoy children’s voices lifted in faith-filled music – just one of the benefits of daily faith formation in the life of a Catholic school student! Information: (970) 484-1171
