Welcome to our two newest members, Mary Beth Shagena and Shelley Heiserman!
Helen Bowden, PhD
I am a licensed psychologist at Colorado State University and have a private practice doing Social Security disability evaluations. I moved to Fort Collins in 2007 from Florida. I am also a lector, and am involved in the NoCo Young Adult Catholic group as well as several Meetup.com groups. I enjoy the outdoors, sports, singing, reading, writing, creative activities, games, travelling, and new adventures!
Alan Dean, PhD
Most of my childhood was spent in Fort Collins growing up with eight brothers and sisters. I went to Benedictine College, taught high school for three years, earning a PhD from the University of Kansas. During this journey I married Kathleen. I work in the biotechnology industry. Our children, Max, Daniel, and Andrea attended Saint Joseph Catholic School. I enjoy working with the Pastoral Council and Father Steven to keep Saint Josephs a great place to worship.
One of eight children, I grew up in Denver at Holy Family Parish. My husband Michael and I and our children, Laura, Jason, and Kathryn, joined Saint Joseph in 2003. Helping with Vacation Bible School and Religious Education turned into a job as elementary religious education coordinator. The innocence and faith of the children were so valuable for my own faith journey! In 2011 I returned to the medical profession. Serving on the Council continues the strong devotion I have to the wonderful, nurturing family that is our parish and school.
Born and raised in New Jersey, I and my wife Stephanie, and our three sons, have called Fort Collins and this parish home since 1993. I’m in awe of God’s never-ending blessings in my life. The Pastoral Council has been an important part of my faith journey. It is my prayer that during my tenure, I’ve been able to glorify God and contribute toward enhancing the faith and love of His people. Stephanie and I own Goes Funeral Care and Crematory. We consider it our little ministry.
Hi! I’m excited to be a part of the Saint Joseph Pastoral Council and support our vibrant Catholic community, while fostering a setting that encourages active participation in our young adults. I moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Fort Collins in 2001 to attend CSU. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2005, and have been a member of the parish since 2008.
I am the Chairperson for the Saint Joseph Pastoral Council. I am a single mother to a wonderful 13-year-old boy who is an 8th Grader at Saint Joseph Catholic School. I also work full time as the office manager for The Speech & Language Stimulation Center, Inc. I bring to the Council my love of and involvement with our school and our parish. I have been a parishioner here at Saint Joseph for 27 years.
Hi! In addition to the Pastoral Council, I serve as a reader and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. My wife Joan and I love our Church, and deeply admire and respect Fr. Steven. I bring to the Council a limited knowledge gained over an abundance of years.
My wife, Kate, and I have been members of the parish since 2005. We are blessed with seven wonderful children. I graduated from Colorado State University in 1993 with a degree in Business Administration. In 1994, I founded Employment Solutions, now a major regional staffing firm that places over 3,000 employees per year, with offices in Denver, Fort Collins and Greeley. Through God’s grace I am privileged to serve Fr. Steven and this parish community.
I grew up in the small town of Medicine Lake, Montana, and earned by undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Northern Colorado. My 40 years of teaching brought me from Colorado to Guam to Montana and eventually to Alaska, where I lived for 33 years. Following my retirement, I moved to Fort Collins in September of 2012 and joined St. Joseph’s shortly thereafter. I was extremely involved in my church in Wasilla, Alaska, and have already joined nearly a dozen ministries here at St. Joseph’s. I am honored and excited to be serving on our Pastoral Council!
