FORT COLLINS – The Office of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Denver and St. Joseph Catholic Church today announced the appointment of Dr. Charles Hubbeling as principal of St. Joseph Catholic School.
“The hiring of Dr. Hubbeling exemplifies our desire to invest in the best leaders who are dedicated to sustaining and growing Catholic Education far into the future,” said a joint statement from Kevin D. Kijewski, J.D. , Superintendent of Schools and Rev. Steven Voss, Pastor, St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Outstanding educator and catechist
“Dr. Hubbeling brings with him an outstanding reputation as an educator and catechist,” Fr. Voss later added. “Under Dr. Hubbeling’s leadership, Saint Joseph School, noted since 1926 for quality academics backed by Catholic tradition, stands poised for a bright future.”
Dr. Hubbeling replaces Sr. Rose Mary Balappa, S.O.L.M, who announced earlier this year that she had been reassigned by her mother house.
A meet-and-greet reception for Dr. Hubbeling is planned 3 – 4 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1 in the outdoor courtyard of the school, 127 N. Howes St., Ft. Collins, CO, 80521.
Originally from South Dakota, Dr. Hubbeling moved to Colorado in 1993 to work as an engineer. He holds a doctoral degree in engineering at Colorado State University. Dr. Hubbeling transitioned to teaching with a position at the Poudre School District and then St. Joseph Catholic School in 2005. While at St. Joseph, he taught religion, science and biology.
Created CSU, Woodward, HP science partnerships
Since 2010, Dr. Hubbeling has taught at Liberty Common High School where he developed an engineering curriculum in conjunction with CSU and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Hubbeling created a high school internship program in which students are placed with CSU, Woodward Governor, and HP Enterprise. His students have placed first in the state for the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science. He is also a women’s soccer coach, winning championships five out of the last nine years.
Dr. Hubbeling teaches class for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and has led youth groups to Steubenville of the Rockies, missions to Honduras and Confirmation retreats. He also earned a four-year certification by the Catholic Biblical School. He and his wife have four children.
